A title borne by the primates of certain ancient Eastern churches, including the Armenian Apostolic Church, Georgian Orthodox Church, Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church, and the other non-Orthodox Churches of the East (including the Assyrian Church of the East, Ancient Church of the East, and Armenian Catholic Church). Historically, this title was also used by the Church of Caucasian Albania. The title signifies a leader of a catholic (whole) church, and is used in the same titular as Patriarch.
